The red wagon lives!

Kristin and I were sharing stories with the kids about a favorite past time when we lived on Deerfield Drive.Being a very hilly neighborhood, we spent alot of time taking advantage of the slopes for some high speed adventures- with the aid of my 1968 Red Rocket Wagon. Appropriately adorned with a multitude of AC Delco stickers [ circa 1971 ], this modest toy could top out at 20 mph on certain parts of our somewhat steep road. The best spot was the curve between Deerfield Drive and Oakland Road. [ Right in front of our house ] There no greater thrill than whipping around the curve at the end of our driveway on two wheels for a final speed boost to take us alllllll the way to end of Oakland Road. I felt like a NASA space probe being slingshot around Jupiter on its way to Pluto. Sadly - the wagon was garage-saled a long time ago. So I thought. Pop Pop reported this morning that the wagon was still with us at the back of his shed. Not losing a second -Carolyn and I quickly ran over to Pop's house and retrieved the Red Rocket Wagon. I am happy to report we have passed down a highly popular tradition today on Crestview Road with the help of some bicycle helmets and some brake/steering training. The neighbors kids spotted the high speed action and an additional red wagon quickly appeared to join in on the fun. We also discovered that a 175 lb Uncle in the back of the wagon can actually provide additional speed and size 11 braking. Woo woo!

Mirror Creation

So creativity takes time. At the one and only Pop's Pub, the regulars have had to make due with a mirror that shows a lovely nature scene. A buck, a doe, trees, a racoon, a bird and a goofy fence-- all rendered in mirror paint over mirror squares. Because we can never leave well enough alone, one evening the buck became a three- legged doe (with the help of a razor) to honor Kristin's flower eating friend. That was as much fun as we could possibly have with that and because it didn't quite meet with the desired theme, we decided that the mirror must go. A full sized mirror was given as a Christmas gift to the Proprietor in 2004, along with a little sandblasting kit. By Christmas of 2005, the stencils for the proper mirror had been cut. For the Easter 2006 project, the stencils were properly positioned on the mirror and Turbo Joe got ready to sandblast. UMMM, not enough power -- we should have brought the real sandblaster. Don't worry, Pop, it's going to get done. Really.
